Basic Spanish 1 provides students with an introduction to the Spanish language and culture through a competency-based approach. Pronunciation and vocabulary are emphasized through guided student interactions with one another and with the instructor. Cultural awareness and grammar are integrated as students' progress through the course. *This course is not open to, or designed for, Spanish heritage speakers. Heritage speakers are encouraged to enroll in MLS 111 Spanish for Heritage Speakers or an alternate modern language course such as Arabic, French, or American Sign Language.
